After reviewing old posts we realised that this was still on our to do list. So, albeit belated, here’s where we would recommend for the following categories:
#1 Food and ambience
Seafood is big here so of course we got ‘mostly’ seafood dishes 🙂
We would recommend Bayekou for dinner! not only were the dishes amazing! the ambience was great! you can totally come here for a pre-night-out drinks.
Another good spot in the Plateau region is Le Lagoon 1. This is a cute restaurant on the sea. The waiters are kitted out like sailors and the ambience makes you feel like you are on a ship. For recommended dishes, the popular senegalese yassa is great!
For dessert, we would recommend La Royaltine in the Plateau region of the city. The pastries are amazing!!
Radisson Blu is a top pick purely because of the epic architecture and the gorgeous poolside view of the atlantic.
If you want something less expensive but just as gorgeous, Hotel Jardin Savana is a great pick! it’s by the sea so the views are serene, plus as the name gives away, very beautiful gardens on the grounds.
Prefer airbnb/boutique hotels? Try Villa Renaissance, which is pretty close to the Airport.
Get the ferry to Goree island and explore the art, food, beach and the rich history of the island. You would need a couple of hours if not a whole day to do the island properly 🙂
If you want to go a bit further out of town, other top options would be accrobaobab adventure and the pink lake/Lake Retba/Lago Rosa
#4 Night Out
When we got here, we asked locals the popular places for a good night out and it turned out this was the Almadies area!
Bayekou for pre-drinks then Nirvana for clubbing. You are pretty spoilt for choice in the Almadies area for where to go for a night out, so you can also try a bunch of other places in addition to Nirvana.
The sea views in this city are epic!! go for a drive along the coast or walk along the route leading to the presidential palace
Check out the African Renaissance Monument! the view from the top is AMAZING! you can get a panoramic view of the city; explore inside the museum, and the work that went into building this magnificent edifice.
Go to the beach!!! there are soo many good ones! locals recommend tripping to Saly for the best beaches!
Too far for you? there’s Ngor Island, Goree Island, and the little beaches at hotels like Radisson Blu etc
Hope this helps inspire your African travel destinations 🙂
